Where have we come from?
A brief history...
The Community Church began life in 1877, with a group of twenty being sent from the Metropolitan Tabernacle, the church of Charles Spurgeon. The church building was constructed in the 1880s and the church, previously known as Putney Baptist Church, has been making an impact on the Putney area for over 100 years.
In our more recent past the church began its relationship with the Newfrontiers family of churches in the 1980s, and it was through this link that Bob & Mary Cheesman came to the church in 1991. Bob led the church for 10 years and they are now helping to plant a church in New Zealand. For 2 years Mick Richardson had overall responsibility for the church until January 2004 when Jon & Vic Clark arrived from the Newfrontiers church in Catford.
In the past few years we have seen much growth, with many new people joining the church and we look forward to what God has in store in the years to come! |
